I have been really interested in writing about music for a long time now. Currently I'm in a phase where I have been listening to a lot of music tending towards Rock genre.
Be it whatever, ranging from Classic Rock to Punk Rock, I make an attempt to listen to them, not forcibly like them. My personal favorite though is Psychedelic and Progressive Rock. I'm definitely not a pro to write anything critiquing this genre as I consider myself still a beginner. But, I do have a preset mentality and standard of my liking to this genre.
For me, if its Rock, then Guitars and Drums define it, later comes vocals and others. I know for sure that there are a lot of people who may argue with my point of view. But, isn't this the place where I get to voice my opinion??
Ok, now to the list of my favorite guitar solos.
1. Comfortably Numb by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) This is an Absolute Materpiece. If you really want to know what I'm talking about, try listening to the 2nd solo from 4th minute onwards. But if you like to truly enjoy the song, then listen to it from the very beginning.
2. Stairway to Heaven by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Starts slow, then slowly pick up the tempo and the end 2 minutes of guitar play is absolutely mesmerising. If you close your eyes and listen to this song, you wouldn't know where 9 minutes of your life was lost. Life seems to have been paused.
3. November Rain by Slash (Guns N' Roses)The first 90 seconds of this classic is nothing but pure orchestrization marvel, then comes Axl's heart rendering vocals. But what takes the cake in this gem of a song is the 2 part fantastic solo by Slash.
4. All Along the watchtower by Jimi Hendrix I remember telling my cousin about a year back that this song was first released in 1967-68, She thought that I was kidding until she verified it on the internet. What does this tell you?? Jimi Hendrix was an eccentric genius who was way ahead of his time. If you still don't get what I'm saying, all I'd suggest is to stop everything you are doing and go listen to the Master in action.
5. Sultans of Swing by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) Talk about a perfect blend of mix between vocals and guitar, this song is one that is right on top of the marquee. By far, this is one of the most ear-pleasing songs that one may come accross.
Let me know which of your favorites are in your top 5 of all time.
Watch out for part 2 coming up soon. Until then so long.
